El fiscal Guillermo Mendoza Diago dijo que una primera confrontación de la carta dental de la única de las tres mujeres que hasta el momento no ha sido identificada apunta a que no es Tanja Nijmeijer.
Hasta el momento Medicina Legal ha logrado identificar a siete de los ocho fallecidos, entre los que se encuentra el máximo jefe militar de las Farc, Víctor Julio Suárez Rojas, alias el 'Mono Jojoy'.
Autoridades informaron que a Medicina Legal han llegado cuatro personas a reclamar los otros cuerpos pero ninguno de ellos ha probado adecuadamente el parentesco por lo que hasta el momento no se ha entregado ninguno de los fallecidos en la Operación Sodoma.
La madre de Tanja Nijmeije, así como las autoridades holandesas han pedido al Gobierno colombiano realizar una nueva verificación para descartar la muerte de Nijmeije en la 'Operación Sodoma'.
En principio, esa posibilidad se había descartado pero informaciones de inteligencia, en las que se afirma que la holandesa sí estaba asignada al grupo de guerrilleros que cuidaba a 'Jojoy', hicieron dudar a las autoridades.
Nijmeijer nació en Denekamp en la provincia de Overijssel y estudió español en la Universidad de Groninga. En el 2000 vivió un año en Pereira y un año después viajó por el país en la 'Caravana por la Vida' para atraer la atención sobre la situación de la pobreza de los campesinos en Colombia.
En el 2002 terminó sus estudios y a pesar de la oposición de su familia regresó a Colombia.
Nijmeijer se incorporó a las Farc con el pseudónimo Eillen (o Eileen o Ellen). Trabajó como intérprete y traductora, y también participó en combates.

Hermanas, hermanos, amigas, amigos y todas y todos que me apoyan,
Ojalá pudiera sentarme en una mesa con cada uno de ustedes ahora mismo. Podríamos compartir una comida y reflexionar sobre los cambios que han ocurrido en este mundo durante los últimos 35 años o más. Sí es cierto, me fijo en las cosas fuera de los muros (tanto como sea posible). Sé que la confusión reina en el mundo y me duele pensar en la gente nativa que persiste en la pobreza total en las reservas y los barrios urbanos por todas partes de América.
Cuando yo era joven, lo único que quería hacer era hacer una diferencia en la vida de la gente. La semana que entra, cumplo 66 años y todavía quiero hacer esto. Pero en mis circunstancias es difícil tener un impacto. Sospecho que aún si pudiera meterme en la lucha de nuevo, todavía me sentiría frustrado. Todo que queda por hacer es más que una persona puede lograr. Aún así, me gustaría tener la oportunidad de poner de mi parte.
Al pensar en aquellos días en la reserva Pine Ridge, lo que recuerdo son los funerales. Hubo tantos funerales…Tantas familias perdieron sus seres queridos.
Hubo una fuerza poderosa en operación en aquel entonces, con un solo propósito: erradicar toda la resistencia del pueblo lakota.
Nosotros (la gente oglala tradicional y los integrantes del Movimiento Indio Americano) hicimos frente a la amenaza porque estábamos intentando defender a nuestro pueblo. Hicimos lo correcto. Teníamos ––y tenemos–– el derecho a sobrevivir.
Estaban saqueando nuestras tierras, también… en la mayoría de los casos para la minería. No habían pensado en qué hacer con los residuos tóxicos. Los ríos se llenaron de veneno. De lo que me dicen, no ha habido mucho cambio en eso.
En aquel entonces, la reserva estaba desgarrada por un conflicto tribal, y el gobierno federal armó un grupo contra el otro. El resultado fue una larga serie de tragedias para la gente de Pine Ridge… y para la gente que estaba presente aquel día en junio de 1975.
Les digo con toda sinceridad que entiendo la angustia y el dolor sufrido por todos, y yo también he vivido ese sufrimiento.
Un sinnúmero de veces, he observado a personas mentir en el estrado de testigos y he sentido las puertas cerrarse.
He escuchado los jueces amonestar a los fiscales por aceptar pruebas falsas y en algunos casos, participar en la falsificación.
En mi caso, el gobierno ocultó pruebas, también. O las fabricó. Literalmente.
Las cortes dicen que ahora estas cosas ni siquiera se cuestionan. Entonces, me pregunto: Si la norma de justicia estadounidense sigue siendo “más allá de toda duda razonable” ¿por qué permanezco aquí?
Las condenas de varias personas han sido revocadas debido a una sola violación de la Constitución. El número de violaciones constitucionales en mi caso es asombroso. Sin embargo, me quedo aquí, esperando a que me apliquen la misma norma de justicia.
Espero que un día alguien logre poner todo sobre la mesa para mostrar la magnitud de la incriminación de la que soy víctima.
Como ustedes saben, mi libertad condicional fue rechazada el año pasado. Es una decepción pero no estoy derrotado. Soy portador de la pipa sagrada y danzante al Sol. Abandonar la lucha no es –y nunca será–– concebible para mí.
Soy hombre indio y orgulloso de serlo. Amo a mi pueblo y mi cultura y mi espiritualidad. Mis enemigos sugieren lo contrario y buscan robarme mi dignidad. En eso, no tendrán éxito.
Al mirar atrás a los años que han pasado, me acuerdo de toda la gente buena que me ha defendido, que sea por un solo día o por una década. Por supuesto, hay muchas personas que siempre me han apoyado. Pienso en los cientos de miles de personas alrededor del mundo que han firmado peticiones para mí ––desde gente de las reservas más pobres hasta oficiales de alto rango político.
Como hemos aprendido durante todos estos años, mi libertad no llegará rápido o fácilmente. Tendremos que pelear duro para lograrla. Les pido que sigan ayudando a mi Comité y mi equipo legal como siempre lo han hecho. Ahora su apoyo es más importante que nunca. El triunfo de mi libertad será el resultado en gran medida de las acciones que ustedes tomen por mí.
De nuevo, gracias por acordarse de mí. No pueden imaginar el consuelo que ustedes han traído a un hombre inocente encerrado fuera del mundo durante tanto tiempo.

A Nuestro Pueblo y a la Opinión Publica en general:
Hoy 22 de Setiembre de 2010, alrededor de las 3:00 de la madrugada, fue Incendiada una humilde casa de la familia Livio del Lof Paichil Autonomo ubicada en el camino hacia la cascada Inakaial, por sicarios al servicio de los intereses capitalistas que operan en el Territorio Mapuche y que pretenden arrebatarnos los ultimos espacios que aun poseemos y la posterior destrucción de Nuestra Cultura Milenaria.
Este acto Terrorista ha sido realizado con la complicidad de agentes policiales e incluso de los bomberos de la zona quienes se han burlado de Nuestros Comuneros mientras intentaban apagar las llamas de este vil acto, al margen del estado de derecho que dicen defender.
Hemos resistido y nos hemos defendido con lo que hemos tenido a mano mientras ellos poseedores del poder politico economico y judicial no solo nos han usurpado nuestras Tierras, sino nos han criminalizado y perseguido, torturado y reprimido, sino también recurren a mecanismos de Terror, ya que mas de una vez hemos sido blanco de sus atropellos homicidas.
Cuando nos defendemos nos llaman delincuentes, siendo que no poseemos casi mas que nuestras manos y herramientas para trabajar y para defendernos, las leyes no nos amparan, no existen derechos en lo practico, solo atropello.
Debido a este cruel acto daremos por finalizada la paz mantenida hasta el momento en nuestro Territorio violentado y usurpado por el winka opresor, y llamamos a nuestros Weichafe a estar atentos y dispuestos en la defensa del WalMapu y la Resistencia Ancestral Mapuche.

Paraguay - Investigan amenaza de grupo armado contra Lugo y dos de sus colaboradores
Correos presuntamente firmados por el Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo (EPP) advierten al presidente y a dos ministros que "conocen sus movimientos".

El Gobierno paraguayo informó hoy que la policía investiga amenazas presuntamente emitidas por el autodenominado Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo (EPP) contra el jefe de Estado, Fernando Lugo, y dos de sus principales colaboradores.
El ministro de la Secretaría de Información y Comunicación (Sicom), Augusto Dos Santos, informó a periodistas que la unidad de investigación de secuestros de la Policía analiza la veracidad y procedencia de dos correos que recibió este funcionario en la víspera.
Indicó que esos documentos llevan la firma del EPP, que, según las autoridades, fue adiestrado por la guerrilla colombiana de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) para perpetrar secuestros y otro tipo de ilícitos.
Dos Santos resaltó que en los correos se destaca que "conocen sus movimientos", así como los de Lugo y de su ministro de Interior, Rafael Filizzola.
"Por de pronto no hay ningún motivo para modificar la tarea cotidiana y los esfuerzos que se realizan desde este propósito de promover la democracia desde una comunicación pública plural", expresó Dos Santos.
Agregó que "todo está en manos de la investigación" y que puede ser que "sólo se trate de una falsa alarma".
La amenaza contra el mandatario y sus ministros fue emitida quince días después de que el Gobierno informara que elevó a 800 millones de guaraníes (unos 167.000 dólares) la recompensa inicial de 500 millones por la captura de cada uno de los líderes del EPP, de izquierda, y que opera en las regiones boscosas del noreste del país.
Además, la policía confirmó el pasado 3 de septiembre que Gabriel Zárate Cardozo, considerado "número tres" de ese grupo armado, fue abatido durante un enfrentamiento a tiros con agentes en el poblado de Sidepar, al suroeste de Canindeyú, fronterizo con Brasil.
La muerte del presunto cabecilla del EPP se produjo dos meses después de que otro supuesto líder de esa banda, Severiano Martínez, fuera abatido en una región inhóspita del Chaco, región occidental del país, en la misma zona donde en abril pasado había protagonizado un tiroteo con la policía.
Entre otros delitos, el EPP, conocido como tal desde hace dos años, está acusado del secuestro de dos acaudalados ganaderos del noreste del país y varios de sus miembros son buscados por el secuestro y asesinato, en 2005, de Cecilia Cubas, hija del ex presidente paraguayo Raúl Cubas (1998-99).

Ramiro tras reapertura de caso Guzmán: "No existía desorganización del FPMR"
El ex líder del FPMR dice que en la época del crimen el grupo mantenía su sistema de toma de decisiones.
"Es lo mismo que la otra… Sólo que acá hace más calor". Los casi 40 °C se sienten entre las murallas del Presidio Federal de Campo Grande, en Mato Grosso do Sul. Es una de las cárceles más seguras de Brasil, donde ahora permanece detenido Mauricio Hernández Norambuena, el "comandante Ramiro", condenado a dos cadenas perpetuas en Chile por el asesinato del senador UDI Jaime Guzmán y por el secuestro de Cristián Edwards. El 30 de julio fue llevado desde el presidio federal de Catanduvas, Paraná, donde pasó los últimos tres años, condenado a 30 años por el secuestro del empresario brasileño Washington Olivetto.
En ese lugar accedió a conversar con este medio, previa solicitud por escrito a través de las autoridades del penal.
Para acceder a la cárcel hay que sortear un sofisticado sistema de seguridad: tres detectores distintos, con tecnología que identifica hasta partículas químicas y de armas de guerra, ubicados en el ingreso, la recepción y luego el edificio donde comienzan los módulos que hoy albergan a 104 presos de alta peligrosidad.
Luego hay que atravesar varias puertas de acero, hasta llegar a una reja que conduce a un pasillo con salas. En una de ellas aguarda Hernández Norambuena, esposado, con el típico overol azul de los presidios federales y flanqueado por dos guardias. Son las 14.00 y el aire acondicionado de la sala ayuda a sortear el calor húmedo de la zona.
"Ramiro" pregunta por su familia y luego por los efectos de la entrevista que dio a Chilevisión hace algunas semanas.
Tras sus dichos, el ministro Mario Carroza reabrió el caso y ordenó una serie de diligencias. Entre ellas, interrogar a otro de los miembros de la cúpula del FPMR: Enrique Villanueva, el ex "comandante Eduardo" y a quien "Ramiro" sindicó como un informante de "La Oficina".
"La verdad es que estoy a ciegas con esto, con las repercusiones", dice Hernández Norambuena.
Asegura que no buscaba involucrar "mezquinamente" a "personajes" como Villanueva. "¿Estaba viviendo en Chile? ¿No estaba en Venezuela?", dice, al enterarse de que el juez dictó arraigo contra éste. Sobre "Eduardo", comenta que "ya es historia conocida".
Decisiones colectivas
¿Por qué este ex líder del FPMR decidió hablar en Chilevision? Según Hernández, "mi único interés en relación a este caso fue dejar claro que las decisiones nuestras eran de un procedimiento aprobado por una carta orgánica, no que eran decisiones unilaterales o personales. Eso no existió".
Según explica, en la época en que se cometió el crimen de Guzmán, el grupo mantenía su sistema de toma de decisiones. "Considero dejar claro que no existía desorganización del Frente, como se dijo", subraya.
El ex líder del FPMR asegura que su intención fue "salir al paso de ciertas declaraciones". Explica que está aludiendo a dichos del abogado en Chile de Sergio Galvarino Apablaza ("Salvador"), Hiram Villagra, quien en 2004 alegó ante tribunales que su defendido no tuvo responsabilidad en el crimen del ex senador Guzmán y atribuyó la planificación y ejecución del asesinato a "Ramiro". Hernández Norambuena dice que esas afirmaciones le resultaron extrañas, a sabiendas, señala, de que tenía argumentos para demostrar que la decisión fue "colectiva".
"Demoré todo este tiempo, porque antes tenía expectativas de haber llegado a Chile", idea que, según dice, prevalece más por estar cerca de su familia. Según "Ramiro", aún tiene cosas que decir. "Más que en expedientes judiciales, la idea es plasmar la historia del Frente en un libro. Es una obra colectiva, no sólo mi versión".
Rutina
Las palabras de Hernández se confunden a veces entre el español y el portugués, cuando emplea modismos locales. "Igual uno no quiere perder la lengua", dice.
Hoy, sus visitas se remiten a su familia. La última fue de su hermana Laura, en Catanduvas. En Campo Grande, aún no ha recibido a sus cercanos. Hernández enfrenta un estricto régimen carcelario, en el que pasa 22 horas encerrado en su celda, la mayor parte del tiempo leyendo, y donde están prohibidos los cigarrillos. "Lo único bueno es que dejé de fumar", dice él.
La negativa a responder numerosas preguntas
Aunque Hernández Norambuena accedió formalmente a recibir a este medio en el penal de Campo Grande, al momento de concretarse la reunión se negó a ser entrevistado y sólo accedió a realizar algunas declaraciones.
El "comandante Ramiro" se negó a responder numerosas preguntas respecto de su relación con los otros dirigentes de la cúpula rodriguista, su información sobre vínculos del FPMR con "La Oficina" y otros temas similares.
Norambuena es el interno 103 del penal y ocupa una celda en el módulo Delta del presidio federal. Es el mismo lugar donde hasta el 2008 estuvo recluido otro chileno: Rafael Maureira Trujillo, alias "Zacarach".
Condenado por secuestro extorsivo y homicidio
Mauricio Hernández Norambuena está condenado en Chile a dos cadenas perpetuas por el asesinato del senador Jaime Guzmán y el secuestro del empresario Cristián Edwards, ambos hechos ocurridos en 1991.
También participó en el atentado a Augusto Pinochet (1986) y el secuestro del coronel Carlos Carreño (1987).
En 1996 se fugó en helicóptero desde la Cárcel de Alta Seguridad de Santiago (CAS).
El 2002, fue detenido en Brasil por haber dirigido el grupo que mantuvo secuestrado al empresario Washington Olivetto. Por este hecho fue condenado a 30 años de cárcel, junto a otros chilenos y colombianos que participaron del hecho.

Bariloche: Huelga de hambre en respaldo a Presos Politicos Mapuche en Chile
Mapuche Autoconvocados del Nahuel Huapi ocupó pacíficamente el municipio de Bariloche ubicado en el Centro Civico, donde a partir de esta mañana y hasta el lunes Oskar Moreno integrante del Lof Mapuche-Tehuelche Valentin Saihueque, mantendrá una huelga de hambre. La medida surge una forma concreta de acompañar a los Presos Políticos Mapuche que hoy viernes llevan 68 días en huelga de hambre indefinida en las cárceles de Concepción, Temuco, Angol, Lebu, Valdivia y Chol-Chol. "Con esta actitud respondo al llamado que han hecho pu Longko de diferentes identidades Territoriales del LafkenMapu / NguluMapu", expresa el comunicado remitido por el joven, el primero en sumarse a la huelga desde el Puelmapu (Territorio Mapuche en Argentina). "Este gesto pretende una vez más volver a romper con las fronteras impuestas por los estados argentino y chileno para volver a reencontrarnos como un solo pueblo por LIBERTAD, JUSTICIA, TERRITORIO y AUTONOMIA!!", agrega la misiva.

Mientras al oeste de nuestro territorio ancestral (LafkenMapu-NguluMapu) el Estado chileno celebra el Bicentenario encarcelando, torturando y asesinando al Pueblo Mapuche, desde el PuelMapu (Tierra hacia el Este) y como parte del Lof Mapuche-Tehuelche Valentín Saihueque, quiero dar a conocer mi protesta, que se expresa en la decisión de NO INGERIR ALIMENTOS a partir de hoy viernes 17 y hasta el lunes 20 de septiembre inclusive. A partir de esta mañana y hasta el lunes realizaré este repudio al gobierno chileno que estará de gran festín mientras 35 de nuestros hermanos se mueren de hambre “por la razón o por la fuerza”.
Este ayuno que inicio en esta parte del WallMapu (Territorio Ancestral) es una forma concreta de acompañar a nuestros Presos Políticos Mapuche que hoy viernes cumplen 68 días en huelga de hambre indefinida en las cárceles de Concepción, Temuco, Angol, Lebu, Valdivia y Chol-Chol.
Con esta medida se pretende volver con la exigencia hacia el gobierno de Piñera por el CUMPLIMIENTO INMEDIATO A LAS DEMANDAS de nuestros hermanos que arriesgan sus vidas por:
1- Fin a la Ley Antiterrorista de Pinochet y su aplicación en causas Mapuche.
2- Fin al doble procesamiento (justicia civil y militar) en causas Mapuche.
3- Libertad a todos los Presos Políticos Mapuche.
4- Desmilitarización de las comunidades y del Territorio Mapuche.
La intención es sumarse a las movilizaciones Mapuche que se vienen realizando y a las convocadas por la Coordinación de familiares de los Presos Políticos Mapuche en huelga de hambre, con esta actitud respondo al llamado que han hecho pu Longko de diferentes identidades Territoriales del LafkenMapu / NguluMapu. Este gesto pretende una vez más volver a romper con las fronteras artificiales impuestas por los estados argentino y chileno para volver a reencontrarnos como un solo pueblo por LIBERTAD, JUSTICIA, TERRITORIO y AUTONOMIA!!
Sabemos que el poder wingka acusa a nuestros hermanos de terrorismo por luchar por nuestra tierra que fue robada y por nuestra Cultura que es violentada. Porque en dictadura militar y en democracia chilena, los crímenes de lesa humanidad mantienen su continuidad, porque los únicos asesinados en este genocidio: son los Mapuche. La gente de esta tierra. En estos últimos años los Mapuche asesinados fueron: Alex Lemún (2002), Matías Catrileo (2008) y Jaime Mendoza Collio (2009). Todos fusilados por el estado en recuperaciones de tierras.
En esta resistencia que lleva más de 200 años, el Pueblo Mapuche transita por un proceso de re-construcción, de recuperación y defensa del Territorio, demandando el reconocimiento pleno de derechos, avanzando en la proyección de la vida y de nuestra milenaria filosofía en todo el WallMapu (de mar a mar).
A 68 días de iniciada esta drástica medida nuestros hermanos han bajado más de 20 kg y cada vez se agrava más su estado de salud. Mientras los fiscales chilenos piden condenas de más de 100 años para los Mapuche, al carabinero Walter Ramirez asesino de Matias Catrileo solo lo condenan a "tres años y un día de libertad vigilada”, en otras palabras firmar por 3 años una planilla en gendarmería chilena. Es por eso que denunciamos y condenamos esta política sistemática de represión, cargada de racismo e injusticia.
Los estados tienen una deuda histórica con nuestro Pueblo. Y en el caso de Chile no es suficiente con “reconocerlo”, reformar leyes, “pedir perdón mil veces si es necesario” o creyendo que alimentando por la fuerza y contra la voluntad de nuestros hermanos será "todo lo humanamente posible" como “solucion”. Por eso el gobierno de Piñera y el poder wingka deberán hacerse responsables de lo que pueda ocurrir con nuestros hermanos y sus vidas.
Condenamos la politica de criminalizacion y violencia sin limites del "Chile bicentenario" donde mantiene en prisión a menores Mapuche con la aplicacion de la ley antiterrorista Pinochet, esa misma que utilizó el dictador para perseguir, desaparecer y asesinar a disidentes politicos. Hoy Chile se da el lujo de ser el primer pais en Latinoamerica que aplica la legislacion antiterrorista en contra de menores de edad.
Por último convocamos a nuestro Pueblo a expresarse e intensificar las movilizaciones en todo el WallMapu (de mar a mar) en respaldo y por la vida de nuestra gente. No somos chile, no somos argentina! Mapunche ta inchiñ! Nada que celebrar! 200 años de Resistencia Mapuche!

Argentina - Las tomas de colegios secundarios en los medios: mapa para “militar” en contra de la acción directa.
Por más ataque mediático que exista, una lucha no caerá por ello. Sin embargo, las crónicas con “avisos” de infiltración, arengas a padres, e incluso intentos de ridiculización, son operaciones que pueden hacer bastante para que aquellos que no se encuentran insertos (pero sí atravesados) por una lucha, sientan que ésta no es legítima, o por lo menos, no mucho. Frente a las tomas en colegios secundarios de la Capital Federal, el despliegue habitual de dispositivos discursivos que los medios de comunicación de la burguesía ponen en funcionamiento, tuvo esta vez una estrella: la “infiltración”. Aquí buscaremos rastrear las figuras discursivas que utilizan los medios para escindir política de educación, a fin tener un mapa de creencias y lugares comunes (burgueses) que eventualmente deberemos enfrentar como protagonistas de luchas en el ámbito educativo.
El funcionamiento de tales dispositivos no es lineal y no pueden hacer que alguien que escucha un editorial, se ponga directamente en contra de un proceso de lucha. Sin embargo las figuras que crean esos discursos (como la de “infiltrados” entre los estudiantes, o simplemente “estudiantes vagos”) quedan boyando en algún lugar de la memoria, hasta que algo las activa (algo que puede ser un estudiante furioso por no poder cursar, un profesor reaccionario, o cosas más simples, como un poco de lluvia, etc). Desde luego que los discursos a favor de llevar adelante un proceso de lucha también generan sus dispositivos latentes. Sin embargo, es precisamente en los momentos en que se desata un proceso abierto por una reivindicación concreta (como la de los estudiantes secundarios en la actualidad) cuando también se batalla por hacer valer unos dispositivos discursivos frente a otros, y allí es dónde radica la batalla por la legitimidad. Habrá actores que participen activamente de la lucha (a favor y en contra de ella), y a ellos nada los dará vuelta. Pero también existirán actores no constituidos como tales a los que habrá que disputar para que se unan a la lucha, y para ello resulta importante discutir frente a frente con las creencias burguesas que se buscan extender (o ya están extendidas).
Me dicen el “infiltrado”
"Vamos a volver a pedir a la justicia que nos dé una herramienta para identificar claramente que los chicos que están en la escuela sean alumnos de la escuela", aseguró el ministro de Educación porteño, Esteban Bullrich (http://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/ultimas/20-152261-2010-08-30.html). El “infiltrado” fue una de las figuras que varios ministros o cuadros del gobierno agitaron para extender la idea de que si los colegios están tomados, es porque hay agrupaciones kirchneristas interesadas en voltear a Macri, y no porque los techos de los colegios se caigan a pedazos (como explaya Rodríguez Larreta, al acusar que hay "sectores del chavismo en la Argentina y a La Cámpora" de "tomar escuelas y hacerle perder a los chicos días de clase para hacer política" http://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/ultimas/subnotas/152261-48921-2010-08-30.html). “¿Todos los compañeros que viste durante la toma eran compañeros tuyos?”, es una pregunta que ya establece de antemano la posibilidad de que alguien en la toma de un colegio, no sea de allí, y que cualquier cronista de un móvil o periodista de piso puede hacer a un estudiante de paso. En el mínimo instante en que el esporádico entrevistado dude sobre la procedencia de todas las personas a las que vió (cuestión natural, ya que los humanos poseemos el don maravilloso de olvidar), la toma de la cámara será recortada para repetir una y otra vez ese momento de duda. La cadena lógica siguiente es parte de la tarea de un cuadro intelectual a la burguesía: si se duda, es porque seguro que hay alguien que no es del colegio; si hay alguien que no es del colegio, seguro que está haciendo “política”; y (obviamente) si alguien hace política es malo. Esta cadena simple funciona sobre el presupuesto de la deslegitimación del que lamentablemente goza la actividad política en Argentina, a raíz de causas que exceden la modestia del presente escrito.
Sin embargo, para poder activar el dispositivo discursivo que hace alusión a “infiltrados” en las tomas, los medios de comunicación sólo pudieron recurrir a las palabras de la burguesía, ya que no han podido encontrar fácilmente estudiantes desprevenidos a quienes hacerles pisar un palito más simple de lo que parece. Aquí se ve otro punto más de los frutos que da el organizarse para golpear con un solo puño (en este caso, a través de la Coordinadora Unificada de Estudiantes Secundarios, CUES), y es que el discurso de los distintos colegios ha sido relativamente unificado, y sus contactos con la prensa burguesa casi sólo se han dado a través de voceros que no se desviaron de los lineamientos generales que guían la lucha.
La idea de “infiltración” también alude a que el problema es endémico, es decir, está pero no se sabe donde ni en qué medida. Por ello es que Bullrich reclama una “herramienta judicial”: Una forma elegante de pedir que le dejen utilizar cuanto procedimiento policial se conozca en el interior de los colegios secundarios a fin de buscar chivos expiatorios que corroboren la idea de infiltración, fundamentando un régimen represivo cuestión en torno a la cual siempre gira el Estado.
El punto más risible del asunto se alcanza cuando, una vez que la idea de lograr policialidad en la búsqueda de estudiantes secundarios que luchan por sus reivindicaciones fue expuesta, extendida, criticada y hasta declarada inconstitucional (http://www.tn.com.ar/sociedad/112687/declaran-inconstitucional-identificar-alumnos-que-tomen-colegios).
Infobae trató de ser la vanguardia que de vuelta los argumentos. “En medio de las tomas, hay una agrupación estudiantil que se dedica a espiar compañeros: FEL, agrupación afín al Partido Obrero, que elabora informes sobre alumnos secundarios en los que pueden ser tildados con desprecio como "despolitizados" o "faccionalizados" en alusión a quienes se oponen a la agrupación” (http://www.infobae.com/general/534920-101275-0-En-medio-las-tomas-hay-una-agrupacion-estudiantil-que-se-dedica-espiar-companeros) escribe el portal conocido por su escasa pericia periodística. La nota solo trata sobre la verborrágica opinión al pasar de un militante. Si bien pueden ser criticables los dichos del militante (por otras cuestiones, como su marcado sexismo), no se avistan en ella tal pretensión de buscar policialmente a aquellos que no apoyen la lucha. Eso es algo que completa el medio, y lo hace aprovechando que la cuestión estaba instalada de antemano, aunque fuera el ministro Bullrich quién reclamara permisos para reprimir.
Criminal, alcohólico, vago, o en su defecto, crédulo e inocente
“Ramal...” Reflexiona el cerebral Eduardo Feinman. “¿Ese no es un activo miembro del Partido Obrero? Esto confirma que esto está totalmente politizado, que hay adultos llenándole la cabeza a los nenes” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSPxc5t8aGA). Más allá de la clara marcación policial que mantiene el periodista y que contribuye al proceso de persecución que mencionamos antes, otro de los aspectos que denuncia esta frase es la constante consideración del adolescente (o los “jóvenes” en general), como sujetos incapaces de valerse por sí mismos, y eternamente incapacitados para decidir algo. Es más, Feinman completa la reflexión al añadirle a esta estructura básica con la que se piensa la adolescencia desde los parámetros burgueses, con que en el remoto caso de que los estudiantes secundarios decidieran algo sobre sus vidas, seguro que es porque alguien se los inyectó desde afuera.
“Las autoridades se retiraron a hacer una denuncia penal. Al dejarle el colegio en manos de los chicos, siendo que son adolescentes, fue como dejarle nafta al fuego. Son adolescentes y piensan que se llevan el mundo por delante. Esto hay que bajarlo, hay que bajarle los decibeles” (minuto 7:43), dice el padre de un estudiante durante la toma del Normal N°6, ubicado en el barrio porteño de Belgarno (http://www.clarin.com/sociedad/educacion/colegios_tomados-Ciudad_0_323967795.html). En este testimonio se ve cómo en el momento que los estudiantes secundarios toman en sus manos una tarea que sus padres y parte de los profesores, no pudieron o no quisieron llevar adelante, se levantan los discursos desde la perspectiva protectora y paternalista (lo cual implica entender una debilidad innata en aquel que se “protege” o sobre el que se manda). Lo que decidan los estudiantes, seguro es errado por principio, a partir de una supuesta inmadurez dada por la edad, mientras los mismos “adultos” que hoy se quejan por las tomas de los estudiantes secundarios dejaron pasar por sus narices las décadas de desmantelamiento de la educación estatal.
Al margen, la denuncia penal que se menciona es por un supuesto ingreso de alcohol al colegio durante la toma. Esta cuestión, es algo se agita habitualmente acerca de los adolescentes en general y más aún en un proceso de lucha estudiantil. De seguro que muchos de los padres de los estudiantes que se pusieron en pie de lucha, hoy estarán deseando que sus hijos vuelvan a ser aquellos alcohólicos y drogadictos que vivían los fines de semana de reviente, andaban por la vida despreocupados de los conflictos sociales y la actualidad del país, tal y como se los caracteriza en general. Por suerte (y no tanto por suerte) muchos secundarios demuestran hoy una madurez que debería darles envidia.
División entre contenido (“justo”) y forma (“equivocada”)
No mostrarse progresista ante un techo que se cae, a veces es políticamente incorrecto, y las clases medias de la Capital Federal son especialistas en tratar de no quedar mal ante un micrófono (aunque, desde luego, siempre está el componente fascista del distrito más acaudalado del país, las clases medias siempre tratarán de “quedar bien”… no arriesgarse mucho y decir lo conocido). Esto es algo que puede verse en una crónica del diario La Nación “Los porteños se asomaron curiosos mientras avanzaba la columna de adolescentes, pero las personas consultadas por LA NACION no aprobaron el método. ‘Me parece bien que reclamen por sus escuelas, pero no es la forma. Esto perjudica a los comercios’, dijo Leonardo González, un empleado de una óptica de la avenida Corrientes” (http://www.lanacion.com.ar/nota.asp?nota_id=1296619). Es habitual este comentario. Sin embargo, la pregunta por “¿cuál sería la forma?” pocas veces es formulada por los medios burgueses a sus ocasionales entrevistados, dado que les basta con que deslegitimen la acción tomada. Luego de una crónica, los medios editorializan mediante la palabra de un transeúnte ocasional y la cuestión queda allí.
Sin embargo el fascismo más brutal de los medios argentinos tiene hoy un paladín: Eduardo Feinman (brutal, sobretodo por su poca elocuencia y elaboración argumental). En este video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stnoWZ5C_zk&feature=player_embedded) se observa que el periodista sí da su visión de cuál sería la forma (burguesa) de resolver las cosas: la Ley. Para esta perspectiva habría que hacer mil petitorios individuales y esperar que algún ministro le preste atención a alguno de tales petitorios. Sin embargo, el estudiante entrevistado repite hasta el cansancio la cantidad de instancias formales agotadas frente al Estado para que se responda a la situación, hasta que actualmente decidieron llevar delante la acción directa de tomar los colegios. De modo que, lo que parece aberrante frente al credo de la ley burguesa, es una forma que se lleve adelante mediante la organización, la solidaridad, y la acción directa que rompen con el individualismo delegacionista para el que fue concebido el derecho burgués. Allí radica su necesidad de dividir la cuestión.
La batalla cultural también es la lucha de clases…
Discutir la escisión que se busca generar entre los que luchan y los que “estudian”, es dar la batalla cultural en cada discusión con un compañero de curso, un profesor o un padre. Si nuestros compañeros de aula interpretan que el que lucha por una mejor educación no es (ni debe ser) él mismo (ni el compañero que se sienta a su lado) quien la lleve adelante, entonces el mecanismo de delegación política tendrá (y actualmente tiene) abonado terreno para hacer carne la representación política.
Como militantes anarquistas creemos que es necesario dar esta discusión a fin de lograr que nuestros compañeros de cursada y profesores desarrollen su actividad política con los métodos de la acción directa.

El funcionamiento de tales dispositivos no es lineal y no pueden hacer que alguien que escucha un editorial, se ponga directamente en contra de un proceso de lucha. Sin embargo las figuras que crean esos discursos (como la de “infiltrados” entre los estudiantes, o simplemente “estudiantes vagos”) quedan boyando en algún lugar de la memoria, hasta que algo las activa (algo que puede ser un estudiante furioso por no poder cursar, un profesor reaccionario, o cosas más simples, como un poco de lluvia, etc). Desde luego que los discursos a favor de llevar adelante un proceso de lucha también generan sus dispositivos latentes. Sin embargo, es precisamente en los momentos en que se desata un proceso abierto por una reivindicación concreta (como la de los estudiantes secundarios en la actualidad) cuando también se batalla por hacer valer unos dispositivos discursivos frente a otros, y allí es dónde radica la batalla por la legitimidad. Habrá actores que participen activamente de la lucha (a favor y en contra de ella), y a ellos nada los dará vuelta. Pero también existirán actores no constituidos como tales a los que habrá que disputar para que se unan a la lucha, y para ello resulta importante discutir frente a frente con las creencias burguesas que se buscan extender (o ya están extendidas).
Me dicen el “infiltrado”
"Vamos a volver a pedir a la justicia que nos dé una herramienta para identificar claramente que los chicos que están en la escuela sean alumnos de la escuela", aseguró el ministro de Educación porteño, Esteban Bullrich (http://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/ultimas/20-152261-2010-08-30.html). El “infiltrado” fue una de las figuras que varios ministros o cuadros del gobierno agitaron para extender la idea de que si los colegios están tomados, es porque hay agrupaciones kirchneristas interesadas en voltear a Macri, y no porque los techos de los colegios se caigan a pedazos (como explaya Rodríguez Larreta, al acusar que hay "sectores del chavismo en la Argentina y a La Cámpora" de "tomar escuelas y hacerle perder a los chicos días de clase para hacer política" http://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/ultimas/subnotas/152261-48921-2010-08-30.html). “¿Todos los compañeros que viste durante la toma eran compañeros tuyos?”, es una pregunta que ya establece de antemano la posibilidad de que alguien en la toma de un colegio, no sea de allí, y que cualquier cronista de un móvil o periodista de piso puede hacer a un estudiante de paso. En el mínimo instante en que el esporádico entrevistado dude sobre la procedencia de todas las personas a las que vió (cuestión natural, ya que los humanos poseemos el don maravilloso de olvidar), la toma de la cámara será recortada para repetir una y otra vez ese momento de duda. La cadena lógica siguiente es parte de la tarea de un cuadro intelectual a la burguesía: si se duda, es porque seguro que hay alguien que no es del colegio; si hay alguien que no es del colegio, seguro que está haciendo “política”; y (obviamente) si alguien hace política es malo. Esta cadena simple funciona sobre el presupuesto de la deslegitimación del que lamentablemente goza la actividad política en Argentina, a raíz de causas que exceden la modestia del presente escrito.
Sin embargo, para poder activar el dispositivo discursivo que hace alusión a “infiltrados” en las tomas, los medios de comunicación sólo pudieron recurrir a las palabras de la burguesía, ya que no han podido encontrar fácilmente estudiantes desprevenidos a quienes hacerles pisar un palito más simple de lo que parece. Aquí se ve otro punto más de los frutos que da el organizarse para golpear con un solo puño (en este caso, a través de la Coordinadora Unificada de Estudiantes Secundarios, CUES), y es que el discurso de los distintos colegios ha sido relativamente unificado, y sus contactos con la prensa burguesa casi sólo se han dado a través de voceros que no se desviaron de los lineamientos generales que guían la lucha.
La idea de “infiltración” también alude a que el problema es endémico, es decir, está pero no se sabe donde ni en qué medida. Por ello es que Bullrich reclama una “herramienta judicial”: Una forma elegante de pedir que le dejen utilizar cuanto procedimiento policial se conozca en el interior de los colegios secundarios a fin de buscar chivos expiatorios que corroboren la idea de infiltración, fundamentando un régimen represivo cuestión en torno a la cual siempre gira el Estado.
El punto más risible del asunto se alcanza cuando, una vez que la idea de lograr policialidad en la búsqueda de estudiantes secundarios que luchan por sus reivindicaciones fue expuesta, extendida, criticada y hasta declarada inconstitucional (http://www.tn.com.ar/sociedad/112687/declaran-inconstitucional-identificar-alumnos-que-tomen-colegios).
Infobae trató de ser la vanguardia que de vuelta los argumentos. “En medio de las tomas, hay una agrupación estudiantil que se dedica a espiar compañeros: FEL, agrupación afín al Partido Obrero, que elabora informes sobre alumnos secundarios en los que pueden ser tildados con desprecio como "despolitizados" o "faccionalizados" en alusión a quienes se oponen a la agrupación” (http://www.infobae.com/general/534920-101275-0-En-medio-las-tomas-hay-una-agrupacion-estudiantil-que-se-dedica-espiar-companeros) escribe el portal conocido por su escasa pericia periodística. La nota solo trata sobre la verborrágica opinión al pasar de un militante. Si bien pueden ser criticables los dichos del militante (por otras cuestiones, como su marcado sexismo), no se avistan en ella tal pretensión de buscar policialmente a aquellos que no apoyen la lucha. Eso es algo que completa el medio, y lo hace aprovechando que la cuestión estaba instalada de antemano, aunque fuera el ministro Bullrich quién reclamara permisos para reprimir.
Criminal, alcohólico, vago, o en su defecto, crédulo e inocente
“Ramal...” Reflexiona el cerebral Eduardo Feinman. “¿Ese no es un activo miembro del Partido Obrero? Esto confirma que esto está totalmente politizado, que hay adultos llenándole la cabeza a los nenes” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSPxc5t8aGA). Más allá de la clara marcación policial que mantiene el periodista y que contribuye al proceso de persecución que mencionamos antes, otro de los aspectos que denuncia esta frase es la constante consideración del adolescente (o los “jóvenes” en general), como sujetos incapaces de valerse por sí mismos, y eternamente incapacitados para decidir algo. Es más, Feinman completa la reflexión al añadirle a esta estructura básica con la que se piensa la adolescencia desde los parámetros burgueses, con que en el remoto caso de que los estudiantes secundarios decidieran algo sobre sus vidas, seguro que es porque alguien se los inyectó desde afuera.
“Las autoridades se retiraron a hacer una denuncia penal. Al dejarle el colegio en manos de los chicos, siendo que son adolescentes, fue como dejarle nafta al fuego. Son adolescentes y piensan que se llevan el mundo por delante. Esto hay que bajarlo, hay que bajarle los decibeles” (minuto 7:43), dice el padre de un estudiante durante la toma del Normal N°6, ubicado en el barrio porteño de Belgarno (http://www.clarin.com/sociedad/educacion/colegios_tomados-Ciudad_0_323967795.html). En este testimonio se ve cómo en el momento que los estudiantes secundarios toman en sus manos una tarea que sus padres y parte de los profesores, no pudieron o no quisieron llevar adelante, se levantan los discursos desde la perspectiva protectora y paternalista (lo cual implica entender una debilidad innata en aquel que se “protege” o sobre el que se manda). Lo que decidan los estudiantes, seguro es errado por principio, a partir de una supuesta inmadurez dada por la edad, mientras los mismos “adultos” que hoy se quejan por las tomas de los estudiantes secundarios dejaron pasar por sus narices las décadas de desmantelamiento de la educación estatal.
Al margen, la denuncia penal que se menciona es por un supuesto ingreso de alcohol al colegio durante la toma. Esta cuestión, es algo se agita habitualmente acerca de los adolescentes en general y más aún en un proceso de lucha estudiantil. De seguro que muchos de los padres de los estudiantes que se pusieron en pie de lucha, hoy estarán deseando que sus hijos vuelvan a ser aquellos alcohólicos y drogadictos que vivían los fines de semana de reviente, andaban por la vida despreocupados de los conflictos sociales y la actualidad del país, tal y como se los caracteriza en general. Por suerte (y no tanto por suerte) muchos secundarios demuestran hoy una madurez que debería darles envidia.
División entre contenido (“justo”) y forma (“equivocada”)
No mostrarse progresista ante un techo que se cae, a veces es políticamente incorrecto, y las clases medias de la Capital Federal son especialistas en tratar de no quedar mal ante un micrófono (aunque, desde luego, siempre está el componente fascista del distrito más acaudalado del país, las clases medias siempre tratarán de “quedar bien”… no arriesgarse mucho y decir lo conocido). Esto es algo que puede verse en una crónica del diario La Nación “Los porteños se asomaron curiosos mientras avanzaba la columna de adolescentes, pero las personas consultadas por LA NACION no aprobaron el método. ‘Me parece bien que reclamen por sus escuelas, pero no es la forma. Esto perjudica a los comercios’, dijo Leonardo González, un empleado de una óptica de la avenida Corrientes” (http://www.lanacion.com.ar/nota.asp?nota_id=1296619). Es habitual este comentario. Sin embargo, la pregunta por “¿cuál sería la forma?” pocas veces es formulada por los medios burgueses a sus ocasionales entrevistados, dado que les basta con que deslegitimen la acción tomada. Luego de una crónica, los medios editorializan mediante la palabra de un transeúnte ocasional y la cuestión queda allí.
Sin embargo el fascismo más brutal de los medios argentinos tiene hoy un paladín: Eduardo Feinman (brutal, sobretodo por su poca elocuencia y elaboración argumental). En este video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stnoWZ5C_zk&feature=player_embedded) se observa que el periodista sí da su visión de cuál sería la forma (burguesa) de resolver las cosas: la Ley. Para esta perspectiva habría que hacer mil petitorios individuales y esperar que algún ministro le preste atención a alguno de tales petitorios. Sin embargo, el estudiante entrevistado repite hasta el cansancio la cantidad de instancias formales agotadas frente al Estado para que se responda a la situación, hasta que actualmente decidieron llevar delante la acción directa de tomar los colegios. De modo que, lo que parece aberrante frente al credo de la ley burguesa, es una forma que se lleve adelante mediante la organización, la solidaridad, y la acción directa que rompen con el individualismo delegacionista para el que fue concebido el derecho burgués. Allí radica su necesidad de dividir la cuestión.

Six anarchists were detained in connection with the case of the arson of the Russian Embassy in Belarus
The officers of Belarusian law enforcement agencies detained six activists of anarchist movement.
BelaPAN reports, Ihar Bahachak, Valeriya Khotina, Siarhei Slyusar, Nikalai Dzyadok, Alyaksei Zhinherousky and Alyaksandr Frantskevich were detained on September, 3 about 6 a.m. by the officers of law enforcement agencies and are still under arrest in the detention center in Akrestin Street in Minsk. The detainees are interrogated on the subject of their involvement in the incident near the RF Embassy in Minsk, at the territory of which Molotov cocktails were pelted.
The agency reports, the young people were jointly renting a flat in one of the Minsk districts. Early in the morning the door bell rang in their flat and one of the young men opened the door. Law enforcement officers in civilian clothes burst into the flat and transported young men who were there to GUBOP Interior Ministry of Belarus for interrogation. The flat was searched; five computers, two laptops, mobile phones, money, posters and magazines were confiscated.
Maximal detention term without arraignment makes up 72 hours in Belarus. The prosecutor may prolong this term up to 10 days.
Law enforcement agencies do not comment the situation still.
The incident near the Russian diplomatic mission in Minsk took place in the evening on August, 30. At 22.20 the officers of Safety Department of Interior Ministry disclosed a burning service vehicle Mazda-3 while their walking around the territory of the embassy. At the place of the incident a glass bottle with the capacity of 0,33 liter with the remaining of combustible mixture and fragments of a broken glass bottle with the remaining of the fuse. The crime case according to article “Hooliganism” has been initiated on the fact of the incident.
On September, 2 internet resources belarus.indymedia.org and belarus.avtonom.org allocated a statement, which said that anarchists take upon themselves the responsibility for the attack of Russian Embassy in Minsk that took place in the evening on August, 30. “By this action we express our anger and protest against arrests of social activists who stood up for Khimki Forest in Moscow”, — the statement noted.
The statement was disproved by Russian activists, who stand up for Khimki Forest. They called it a provocation.

1) What We Know About the Discovery Channel Gunman

(Sept. 1) -- The Discovery Channel abruptly entered headlines Wednesday afternoon for an awful reason: a hostage crisis at the network's headquarters in Silver Spring, Md., involving an armed gunman, who the Web quickly identified as James Jay Lee or James Jae Lee, 43, of San Diego (hat tip: The Business Insider). After taking three hostages and negotiating with police for hours, Lee was shot and killed by officers.
Surge Desk lists what is known about Lee so far.
1. He Wrote A Lengthy, Rambling Manifesto
In the document, Lee accused humans of being the "most destructive, filthy, pollutive creatures around." It was posted at his website, www.savetheplanetprotest.com, which has crashed because of server overload. It can still be accessed via Google Cache.
2. He's Been Arrested Outside Discovery Channel HQ Before
In early 2008, Lee was arrested by Montgomery County Police on charges of littering and disorderly conduct for throwing money to attract a crowd outside the channel's headquarters, DCist reports. The blog also noted that "Lee appears to have spent thousands of dollars in advertising his protest plans in publications such as the Express," a free D.C.-area newspaper, "and hiring homeless people to beef up his presence."

3. He Went to Extraordinary Lengths to Protest the Channel
Elaborating on the DCist's claims that Lee spent significant money to stage bizarre protests in front of the network, the Maryland County Newspapers Online Gazette reported back in 2008 that:
Lee was arrested with about $21,000 in cash in the duffel bag he had with him at the protest, Meng testified. Johnson told Lee that he would get his bag of money back. Lee said he had sold several inherited properties in Maui, Hawaii, where he lived prior to moving to San Diego, to pay for the protest, including about $30,000 for full-page advertisements in newspapers. Lee said he had one property left, worth about $200,000, and had plans to give it away in a ''save the planet contest."

First, a lengthy screed has been posted on a website called Save The Planet Protest that opens with “The Discovery Channel MUST broadcast to the world their commitment to save the planet and to do the following IMMEDIATELY.” A Whois search of the registrant of that domain is listed as James Lee. Update: Alleged Discovery Channel HQ gunman ID’d as James Jay Lee; has history of protesting outside building.

It is reasonable to conclude that if the author of the screed on Save the Planet Protest is in fact involved in the hostage situation unfolding in Silver Springs, Maryland, then the registrant of that domain is also involved – or is likely the same person. All that has been reported by TBD.com is that the gunman has been identified as an Aisan male. Perhaps James Lee?

2. All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs’ places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.
3. All programs promoting War and the technology behind those must cease. There is no sense in advertising weapons of mass-destruction anymore. Instead, talk about ways to disassemble civilization and concentrate the message in finding SOLUTIONS to solving global military mechanized conflict. Again, solutions solutions instead of just repeating the same old wars with newer weapons. Also, keep out the fraudulent peace movements. Find ways so that people don’t build more housing pollution which destroys the environment to make way for more human filth! Find solutions so that people stop breeding as well as stopping using Oil in order to REVERSE Global warming and the destruction of the planet!
7. Develop shows that mention the Malthusian sciences about how food production leads to the overpopulation of the Human race. Talk about Evolution. Talk about Malthus and Darwin until it sinks into the stupid people’s brains until they get it!!
8. Saving the Planet means saving what’s left of the non-human Wildlife by decreasing the Human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies! You’re the media, you can reach enough people. It’s your resposibility because you reach so many minds!!!
9. Develop shows that will correct and dismantle the dangerous US world economy. Find solutions for their disasterous Ponzi-Casino economy before they take the world to another nuclear war.

11. You’re also going to find solutions for unemployment and housing. All these unemployed people makes me think the US is headed toward more war.

Children represent FUTURE catastrophic pollution whereas their parents are current pollution. NO MORE BABIES! Population growth is a real crisis. Even one child born in the US will use 30 to a thousand times more resources than a Third World child. It’s like a couple are having 30 babies even though it’s just one! 3) James Lee and Eco-Xenophobia

After protesting the Discovery Channel-US for years, James Jay Lee broke down. Entering the Discovery Channel building in Silver Springs, Maryland, and taking three hostages, Lee released a series of demands for what he believed to be true environmental solutions. He is dead now, shot by police, and his hostages have been rescued. His legacy is now the only thing that remains.
According to his demands, war is bad, immigration is bad, food production leads to starvation, human reproduction is disgusting, and it is incumbent upon the Discovery Channel to mend global warming as well as overpopulation. (Oh, and by the way, according to Demand #1: The Discovery Channel and it’s affiliate channels MUST have daily television programs at prime time slots based on Daniel Quinn’s My Ishmael pages 207-212 where solutions to save the planet would be done in the same way as the Industrial Revolution was done, by people building on each other’s inventive ideas.”)
With regards to the anti-immigrant position of groups like Apply The Breaks, and people like James Lee who echo their rhetoric, The Earth First! Journal Collective has drafted this statement on our position.
While we agree that civilization, population and human consumption are pressing issues creating obstacles to biodiversity and environmental justice, we do not see how the anti-immigrant, pro-border solutions of keeping people and wildlife walled into divided territories and militarized borders, re-enforcing historical colonization, addresses any of those issues.
We, as a collective, and as members of a movement, share the common goal of making connections with other cultures of resistance to the many ill symptoms of industrial civilization which belittles, exploits and destroys all forms of life on this planet.
The current members of this collective are allied to movements struggling against racism, class-domination, capitalism, globalization, sexism, homophobia, urbanism, speciesism, etc. because we believe that all these struggles are inherently connected in fighting the same ills.
While we recognize the urgency of ecological crisis, We see no reason why scapegoating immigrants is anything but a distraction, and much worse, a lingering sentiment of the Manifest Destiny mindset.

Earlier this month, the Center for New Community (CNC) released a report on Apply The Brakes (ATB), a recently formed pro-border, anti-immigrant voice coming from many well-known environmentalists. While it appeared at first glance to be only the newest attempt in a long history of xenophobic environmentalists attempting to manipulating the broader ecology movement towards their own ends (as an extension of the famed John Tanton network), but there are some elements more relevant to Earth First! here. First, ATB includes the vocal support of several former Earth First!ers, including Dave Foreman and George Wuerthner (their website make multiple reference to EF!, including a claim that it was founded by David Brower—who they claim as a posthumous affliate of their group!).
Second, The CNC study came at an interesting time. In the midst of debate around the report—most specifically a particular depressing, off-base exchange between CNC and Captain Paul Watson—the Discovery Channel hostage scenario hit the news. In a sad blend of courage and nonsense, James Lee manifested the fears of immigrant advocates wary of the radical ecology movement at large.

Oddly, the statement that follows was written the week prior to the Discovery Channel Hostage situation as an interjection from the Earth First! Journal collective to the CNC vs. Watson debate. We felt our position as a recognized voice of radical ecology situated in the borderlands could be of value. Today, September 2, 2010, we feel that value has an even broader relevance.
This much we can agree on: there is a war against the Earth and we cannot stay neutral and observe passively. Where our common ground with people such as Paul Watson and Dave Foreman exists from there, it is unclear.
We view industrial civilization as the primary aggressor of this war. The same system that dominates the planet has succeeded in dominating most people on the planet as well. Despite this general agreement among current active participants in the Earth First! movement, many among us still experience the feeling of misanthropy (and some still embrace it wholly). But even for those who view attacks on the planet stemming from the human species (rather than the systems that dominate it), we on the EF! Journal collective fail to see how that equates aligning yourself with white nationalists, right-wing nativists and border militarization rather than immigrant campesinos, refugees and the youth of undocumented families fghting to stop their parents and siblings from deportation? How does keeping people behind walls address global population?
From Paul Watson’s letter it is diffcult to tell if he even read the report or watched the video sent to him about Apply The Brakes (ATB) by Center for New Community (CNC). Does he disagree with the documentation presented about ATB affiliations with known racists and xenophobes who are classifed as hate groups by multiple sources? Does he have some information to counter this? Or is he indifferent to it because he agrees so strongly with their strategy for urgent action—which, according to their website, entails writing generic form letters to elected offcials about population increase and immigration in the United States? Since when did Paul Watson think writing form letters to congress was the best way to get results anyway?
And to what end? What we have seen from the loudest anti-immigrant groups have been expanded border walls through sensitive desert bioregions and indigenous land; “national security” measures which override federal environmental protection, such as REAL ID Act and Secure Borders Initiative; and legislative efforts like HR4437 in 2006 and SB 1070 in Arizona this year aimed at increasing the police state power to criminalize people for crossing arbitrary borders established through wars of colonial conquest and empire building.
Watson’s letter states: “By the way I'm all for unrestricted immigration by wolves, bears, fsh, birds and any other non-exotic formally native species wishing to return home.”
When’s the last time Paul was in the borderlands? Does he know that they’ve been building and expanding massive walls across the desert for almost twenty years; that Audubon and Sierra Club lawsuits against construction of the wall in sensitive areas of Texas and Arizona were thrown out of federal court for the same “national security” reasons hailed by ATB?
The last known jaguar in the southwestern U.S. was killed last year. State biologists and other liberals say it doesn’t matter because they’ll never live here again anyway. They’re right—militarization and border wall expansion will likely ensure that a Mexican jaguar never makes it to this half of their range again.
If you’re nor worried about jaguars, how about endangered pygmy owls and Sonoran Pronghorn antelope in Arizona; fat-tailed horned lizard and peninsular bighorn sheep in California; the grey wolf in New Mexico; Big Bend National Park, Cabeza Prieta National Refuge, Organ Pipe National Monument, the San Pedro and Rio Grande Rivers, all bisected by the borders ATB praises.
Stephen Mumme, an expert on borderland ecology at Colorado State University says that current border policy presents an extremely high threat to biodiversity, “right up there with the most serious and long-term adverse consequences for the environment created by humankind—right up there with the worst instances of urbanization, the worst instances of damming up our rivers.”
Desert ecologist, Daniel Patterson, with the Center for Biological Diversity, said “the only living things the walls won’t stop are people” (millions of them, who continue coming in direct relation to global economic pressures.)
So, has anything good come of anti-immigrant bigotry masquerading as ecology or xenophobes using ecologists to their own ends? We would venture to say yes: one thing. Judging from the short CNC video of young people in New York confronting the Weeden Foundation for financing the Tanton Network (specifically the slick new image of ATB) it has mobilized a whole new generation of activists, many of whom seem to realize they are facing the latest face of Manifest Destiny. The same Manifest Destiny that cleared the vast majority of ancient forests, wiped out the buffalo and drove millions into the agricultural and industrial slavery that continues today.
For our part, we have made a conscious decision to side with immigrant activists, many of whom come from land-based communities and know more closely the practical reality of living with the earth instead of against it.
While we are not necessarily interested in the “economic renewal” proposed by Center for New Communities, we don’t see ATB calling for the end of industrial civilization either. In fact, the contrary—where former Earth First!ers like Dave Foreman and George Wuerthner once spoke of the need to deindustrialize the entire society, they now speak as defenders of status quo as self-described leaders of ATB. Their decision is a turncoat alliance with the system that is killing the planet.
In years 20 past, we have increasingly parted ways with some of the prominent old guard deep ecologists over the subject of population and immigration. Today, we find much of that debate is over. There is no way to be a committed biocentrist in support of a regime of colonial borders, devastating walls through bioregions and the fortification of the police state intended to keep the current system intact.
“One of the key concepts of bioregionalism is that modern political boundaries have no relationship to natural ecological provinces. Bioregionalists argue that human society—and therefore, politics and economics—should be based on natural ecosystems. They fnd affnity with Indian tribes and with Basque, Welsh, and Kurdish separatists, and have no sympathy with the modern nation-state, empire, or mutinational corporation.” Sound familiar? Who could have written those words but Dave Foreman himself in his 1991 hardback, Confessions of an Eco-Warrior. (Harmony Books. NYC, 1991. pp. 43)
For those who do not have the wax too far in their ears, we ask you to refect your position on biocentrism and deep ecology in relation to your alignment with ATB.
In our effort to form an appropriate response to end the war against the Earth, where will we search for allies—among right-wing elitist think tanks or among ground level movements of people facing off with power?

5) What is the Anti-civilization movement?
Broadly speaking we can say that as long as civilization has existed there have been those that have opposed it. So-called “primitive” societies have always resisted falling under the yoke of civilization from the forgotten tribes of Mesopotamia, to the native peoples of North America and Africa, to the least remaining primitive societies in deepest Amazonia and Papua New Guinea. civilization has destroyed the ancient, earth-based traditions of countless societies and replaced them with a monotonous, unsustainable and oppressive system. civilization has denuded the Earth of vast forests in its ever-increasing desire for
more agricultural land and has enslaved humans, animals and plants in the process.
Slaves and primitives are not the only ones to have rebelled against civilization. The privileged classes of civilized societies have also had their rebels, including: Henry David Thoreau, Edward Carpenter, Ralph Borsodi and Sigmund Freud. Among Europeans of the era of colonization the trope of the “noble savage” became popular, due mostly to reports of the uncivilized ways of life of native Americans. The first hand accounts of the colonization of the United States are full of mentions of whites and blacks that willingly left civilized life to go live with the indians. Even today anthropologists and others feel the urge to “go native.”
As the anti-civilization tendency has built momentum in recent decades three distinct threads of anti-civilization thought have emerged. The first is that of Daniel Quinn, whose philosophy James Lee embraced. The second is the wilderness protection theory and practice of Earth First!, Earth Liberation Front and other similar groups and individuals. The third is that of the Green Anarchists. Each of these approach the problem of civilization in different ways.
Daniel Quinn
Quinn is the least radical of the three tendencies. His proposals for overcoming civilization are vague and piecemeal. His non-fiction book Beyond Civilization outlines in the most detail his concept of the New Tribal Revolution. This Revolution would be brought about by “occupational tribalism,” something like a hybrid of small business and circus troupe. These tribes would be semi-self-sufficient, exchanging goods and services with one another. An original concept, but it seems unlikely to truly challenge capitalism, let alone civilization. Quinn can be described as a reformist. The violent actions that took place at the Discovery Channel are surely not ones he would endorse. Curiously, Lee referred only specifically to a passage from Quinn's novel My Ishmael:
One: The revolution won't take place all at once. It's not going to be any sort of coup d'etat like the French or Russian revolutions.
Two: It will be achieved incrementally, by people working off each other's ideas. This is the great driving innovation of the Industrial Revolution.
Three: It will be led by no one. Like the Industrial Revolution, it will need no shepherd, no organizer, no spearhead, no pacesetter, no mastermind at the top; it will be too much for anyone to lead.
Four: It will not be the initiative of any political, governmental, or religious body — again, like the Industrial Revolution. Some will doubtless want to claim to be its supporters and protectors; there are always leaders ready to step forward once others have shown the way.
Five: It has no targeted end point. Why should it have an end point?
Six: It will proceed according to no plan. How on earth could there be a plan?
Seven: It will reward those who further the revolution with the coin of the revolution. In the Industrial Revolution, those who contributed much in the way of product wealth received much in the way of product wealth; in the New Tribal Revolution, those who contribute much in the way of support will receive much in the way of support.
The idea of building a resistance to civilization informed by the Industrial Revolution is paradoxical, but Quinn's ideas may possibly have some merit. Lee's desperate attempt to have these ideas disseminated failed utterly. He did not even include this quote in the text of his manifesto.
Population
Besides the brief reference to Daniel Quinn's work, the rest of the manifesto draws mostly from the familiar theoretical ground of human overpopulation. Lee makes several explicit references to the work of Thomas Malthus. Malthus, an 18th Century English clergyman is best remembered for his theory of human population growth. According to Malthus human population increases exponentially, while human food supply only grows incrementally. Thus, Malthus believed that inevitably humanity would be pressed into devastating wars over scarce food. Though such a catastrophe has not yet occurred, Malthusian population theory has not died out in popularity. It has had a consistent presence among ecological movements since at least the first Earth Day.
Anarchists have criticized the Malthusian population theory from its inception. It has frequently served those in power as a justification for authoritarian measures. Paul Ehrlich and John Holdren (the latter now an adviser in the Obama administration) both wrote on the subject beginning in the late seventies. Among other draconian measures they have recommended at various times are:forced sterilization and releasing birth control chemicals into drinking water. Forced sterilization is a practice familiar to native American women in the United States and women and men of various ethnicities in European dictatorships, including Nazi Germany. It is an authoritarian, sexist and racist practice that denies women their physical autonomy and family planning initiative. Garrett Hardin applied the Malthusian theory to economics and came up with the concept of the “tragedy of the commons,” a not-so-subtle defence of capitalism and privatization with an ecological veneer.
Overpopulation has become an issue of choice for many elite. Several “think tanks” have been formed in recent decades, including the Optimum Population Trust
in the United Kingdom, which offer top-down “solutions” to overpopulation. Recently Bill Gates convened a small group of the ultra-wealthy to discuss their ideas for “solutions.” Though Green Anarchists do not usually deny that human overpopulation is a concern, we are explicit in our rejection of the authoritarian measures decided upon by the global ruling classes, usually most affecting the poorest and most exploited in Third World nations. Real, sustainable tactics to addressing this problem must come from educating women in their family planning options. In those instances where women are aware of the birth control options available to them, birth rate decreases dramatically. Other tactics, currently less thought out, would involve delegitimizing ideologies that promote unsustainable human population growth such as religions (especially Catholicism, Mormonism and Islam), nationalism and racism. Further, entrenched interests in many overdeveloped nations often use the spectre of rising population as justification for authoritarian anti-immigration efforts. Attempting to limit immigration to various nation-states neither addresses the problem, nor treats already living humans with dignity. Further, as anarchists we explicitly reject the State's interfering in free human movement.
Unfortunately the first generation of Earth First!ers, most notably co-founder Dave Foreman, accepted many of these authoritarian “solutions” to the population issue. As the wilderness defence movement has developed, however, the influence of Green Anarchism has mitigated these xenophobic and misanthropic tendencies. James Lee has exhibited much in his manifesto in the way of misanthropy, referring frequently to babies as “filth,” and blaming immigrants for rising population in the United States. Needless to say the criticism applied to other eco-radicals by Green Anarchists applies also to Lee.
Green Anarchist Trajectories
James Lee's actions were those of a deluded and hopeless soul. His plan was ill-conceived, though his target was deserving of the scorn he placed upon it. The capitalist media is a propaganda behemoth. The vast majority of television programming is decaying human minds throughout the world, and should be stopped by any means necessary. It would be wonderful if it could be replaced by edifying, intellectually stimulating programming, but this is a very unlikely occurrence in the near term.
Anarchism emphatically rejects reformism. Classical anarchism rejects the common notions that capitalism and the State can be reformed to be more humane and less oppressive. All efforts at reform have only made the oppression more subtle and sneaky, such as the illusion of choice offered by capitalism, whether in the form of competing products or hundreds of television channels. Green anarchism rejects the notion that civilization in its entirety can be gainfully reformed. Given civilization's 6000+ year track record it is clear that it functions through intimidation, murder (whether mass wars or state murder, AKA “execution,” “capital punishment'), oppression of women and ethnic minorities, destruction of nature, homogenization of culture, psychological manipulation, and finally the industrial regimentation of all life.
The discussion of tactics in Green Anarchism has barely begun. Many favour tactics borrowed from Earth First!/ELF. Others have begun trying to mentally, spiritually and technically “rewild.” As the movement grows we will come up with a diversity of tactics for addressing the problem of civilization.
These tactics must, and will, be guided by the ever-evolving theoretical structure of Green Anarchism. A wealth of theoretical works are already present on the Internet and in local radical bookstores/infoshops. Two specific trajectories are already being explored and will doubtless be elaborated in the years to come. First, the Malthusian theory of population, already disreputable and highly theoretically suspect, appears ready to be replaced by better ideas about human population growth. Biological science has long accepted food supply as a major factor in the levels of animal populations, yet has almost never considered food supply in relation to human population. It appears as though the anthropocentric bias leading to such a blatant oversight is gradually being addressed. In other words, if current biology is correct, Malthusian population theory is exactly the reverse of how population really works. Thus the belief that increasing food supply will stave off starvation (as was done in the “Green Revolution” of the seventies) may actually compound future catastrophe.
The second trajectory, which will likely eclipse the first, is only beginning to take shape. Many anti-civilization thinkers, most famously Derrick Jensen, are beginning to question science itself. Heretofore most of those that oppose science have done so from a religious, and therefore uncritical, stance. As the unofficial ideology of the current globalizing civilization, science is often claimed to be the only legitimate method of knowledge. Yet, so much of the human experience does not fall under the objective, standardizable, repeatable conditions necessary for scientific enquiry. It is unclear at this early stage what critiques of science in the anti-civilization movement will look like, but they will certainly cause a bit of conceptual reorientation. Much of the ecological aspects of anti-civilization thought, concepts derived from ecological science, will need to be re-examined as these critiques develop.
Whatever the future holds, it is for us to decide. The 6000+ year crisis of civilization will ultimately be a blip in human and world history. What the Earth will be like for millions of years to come will depend, at least in part, on what we do now. Whether the future of life on this planet will be of regeneration or further decimation depends on whether we have a courage to end civilization once and for all.

1) What We Know About the Discovery Channel Gunman

(Sept. 1) -- The Discovery Channel abruptly entered headlines Wednesday afternoon for an awful reason: a hostage crisis at the network's headquarters in Silver Spring, Md., involving an armed gunman, who the Web quickly identified as James Jay Lee or James Jae Lee, 43, of San Diego (hat tip: The Business Insider). After taking three hostages and negotiating with police for hours, Lee was shot and killed by officers.
Surge Desk lists what is known about Lee so far.
1. He Wrote A Lengthy, Rambling Manifesto
In the document, Lee accused humans of being the "most destructive, filthy, pollutive creatures around." It was posted at his website, www.savetheplanetprotest.com, which has crashed because of server overload. It can still be accessed via Google Cache.
2. He's Been Arrested Outside Discovery Channel HQ Before
In early 2008, Lee was arrested by Montgomery County Police on charges of littering and disorderly conduct for throwing money to attract a crowd outside the channel's headquarters, DCist reports. The blog also noted that "Lee appears to have spent thousands of dollars in advertising his protest plans in publications such as the Express," a free D.C.-area newspaper, "and hiring homeless people to beef up his presence."

3. He Went to Extraordinary Lengths to Protest the Channel
Elaborating on the DCist's claims that Lee spent significant money to stage bizarre protests in front of the network, the Maryland County Newspapers Online Gazette reported back in 2008 that:
Lee was arrested with about $21,000 in cash in the duffel bag he had with him at the protest, Meng testified. Johnson told Lee that he would get his bag of money back. Lee said he had sold several inherited properties in Maui, Hawaii, where he lived prior to moving to San Diego, to pay for the protest, including about $30,000 for full-page advertisements in newspapers. Lee said he had one property left, worth about $200,000, and had plans to give it away in a ''save the planet contest."

A game show format contest would be in order. Perhaps also forums of leading scientists who understand and agree with the Malthus-Darwin science and the problem of human overpopulation. Do both. Do all until something WORKS and the natural world starts improving and human civilization building STOPS and is reversed! MAKE IT INTERESTING SO PEOPLE WATCH AND APPLY SOLUTIONS!!!!
2. All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs’ places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.
3. All programs promoting War and the technology behind those must cease. There is no sense in advertising weapons of mass-destruction anymore. Instead, talk about ways to disassemble civilization and concentrate the message in finding SOLUTIONS to solving global military mechanized conflict. Again, solutions solutions instead of just repeating the same old wars with newer weapons. Also, keep out the fraudulent peace movements. They are liars and fakes and had no real intention of ending the wars. ALL OF THEM ARE FAKE! On one hand, they claim they want the wars to end, on the other, they are demanding the human population increase. World War II had 2 Billion humans and after that war, the people decided that tripling the population would assure peace. WTF??? STUPIDITY! MORE HUMANS EQUALS MORE WAR!
4. Civilization must be exposed for the filth it is. That, and all its disgusting religious-cultural roots and greed. Broadcast this message until the pollution in the planet is reversed and the human population goes down! This is your obligation. If you think it isn’t, then get hell off the planet! Breathe Oil! It is the moral obligation of everyone living otherwise what good are they??
5. Immigration: Programs must be developed to find solutions to stopping ALL immigration pollution and the anchor baby filth that follows that. Find solutions to stopping it. Call for people in the world to develop solutions to stop it completely and permanently. Find solutions FOR these countries so they stop sending their breeding populations to the US and the world to seek jobs and therefore breed more unwanted pollution babies. FIND SOLUTIONS FOR THEM TO STOP THEIR HUMAN GROWTH AND THE EXPORTATION OF THAT DISGUSTING FILTH! (The first world is feeding the population growth of the Third World and those human families are going to where the food is! They must stop procreating new humans looking for nonexistant jobs!)
6. Find solutions for Global Warming, Automotive pollution, International Trade, factory pollution, and the whole blasted human economy. Find ways so that people don’t build more housing pollution which destroys the environment to make way for more human filth! Find solutions so that people stop breeding as well as stopping using Oil in order to REVERSE Global warming and the destruction of the planet!
7. Develop shows that mention the Malthusian sciences about how food production leads to the overpopulation of the Human race. Talk about Evolution. Talk about Malthus and Darwin until it sinks into the stupid people’s brains until they get it!!
8. Saving the Planet means saving what’s left of the non-human Wildlife by decreasing the Human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies! You’re the media, you can reach enough people. It’s your resposibility because you reach so many minds!!!
9. Develop shows that will correct and dismantle the dangerous US world economy. Find solutions for their disasterous Ponzi-Casino economy before they take the world to another nuclear war.
10. Stop all shows glorifying human birthing on all your channels and on TLC. Stop Future Weapons shows or replace the dialogue condemning the people behind these developments so that the shows become exposes rather than advertisements of Arms sales and development!
11. You’re also going to find solutions for unemployment and housing. All these unemployed people makes me think the US is headed toward more war.
Humans are the most destructive, filthy, pollutive creatures around and are wrecking what’s left of the planet with their false morals and breeding culture.
For every human born, ACRES of wildlife forests must be turned into farmland in order to feed that new addition over the course of 60 to 100 YEARS of that new human’s lifespan! THIS IS AT THE EXPENSE OF THE FOREST CREATURES!!!! All human procreation and farming must cease!
It is the responsiblity of everyone to preserve the planet they live on by not breeding any more children who will continue their filthy practices. Children represent FUTURE catastrophic pollution whereas their parents are current pollution. NO MORE BABIES! Population growth is a real crisis. Even one child born in the US will use 30 to a thousand times more resources than a Third World child. It’s like a couple are having 30 babies even though it’s just one! The world needs TV shows that DEVELOP solutions to the problems that humans are causing, not stupify the people into destroying the world. Not encouraging them to breed more environmentally harmful humans.
Saving the environment and the remaning species diversity of the planet is now your mindset. Nothing is more important than saving them. The Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels.
The humans? The planet does not need humans.
You MUST KNOW the human population is behind all the pollution and problems in the world, and YET you encourage the exact opposite instead of discouraging human growth and procreation. Surely you MUST ALREADY KNOW this!
I want Discovery Communications to broadcast on their channels to the world their new program lineup and I want proof they are doing so. I want the new shows started by asking the public for inventive solution ideas to save the planet and the remaining wildlife on it.

3) James Lee and Eco-Xenophobia

After protesting the Discovery Channel-US for years, James Jay Lee broke down. Entering the Discovery Channel building in Silver Springs, Maryland, and taking three hostages, Lee released a series of demands for what he believed to be true environmental solutions. He is dead now, shot by police, and his hostages have been rescued. His legacy is now the only thing that remains.
According to his demands, war is bad, immigration is bad, food production leads to starvation, human reproduction is disgusting, and it is incumbent upon the Discovery Channel to mend global warming as well as overpopulation. (Oh, and by the way, according to Demand #1: The Discovery Channel and it’s affiliate channels MUST have daily television programs at prime time slots based on Daniel Quinn’s My Ishmael pages 207-212 where solutions to save the planet would be done in the same way as the Industrial Revolution was done, by people building on each other’s inventive ideas.”)
With regards to the anti-immigrant position of groups like Apply The Breaks, and people like James Lee who echo their rhetoric, The Earth First! Journal Collective has drafted this statement on our position.
While we agree that civilization, population and human consumption are pressing issues creating obstacles to biodiversity and environmental justice, we do not see how the anti-immigrant, pro-border solutions of keeping people and wildlife walled into divided territories and militarized borders, re-enforcing historical colonization, addresses any of those issues.
We, as a collective, and as members of a movement, share the common goal of making connections with other cultures of resistance to the many ill symptoms of industrial civilization which belittles, exploits and destroys all forms of life on this planet.
The current members of this collective are allied to movements struggling against racism, class-domination, capitalism, globalization, sexism, homophobia, urbanism, speciesism, etc. because we believe that all these struggles are inherently connected in fighting the same ills.
While we recognize the urgency of ecological crisis, We see no reason why scapegoating immigrants is anything but a distraction, and much worse, a lingering sentiment of the Manifest Destiny mindset.

Confronting the eco-xenophobia of Apply The Breaks, Captain Paul Watson, James Lee and the whole lot of ‘em

Earlier this month, the Center for New Community (CNC) released a report on Apply The Brakes (ATB), a recently formed pro-border, anti-immigrant voice coming from many well-known environmentalists. While it appeared at first glance to be only the newest attempt in a long history of xenophobic environmentalists attempting to manipulating the broader ecology movement towards their own ends (as an extension of the famed John Tanton network), but there are some elements more relevant to Earth First! here. First, ATB includes the vocal support of several former Earth First!ers, including Dave Foreman and George Wuerthner (their website make multiple reference to EF!, including a claim that it was founded by David Brower—who they claim as a posthumous affliate of their group!).
Second, The CNC study came at an interesting time. In the midst of debate around the report—most specifically a particular depressing, off-base exchange between CNC and Captain Paul Watson—the Discovery Channel hostage scenario hit the news. In a sad blend of courage and nonsense, James Lee manifested the fears of immigrant advocates wary of the radical ecology movement at large.

Oddly, the statement that follows was written the week prior to the Discovery Channel Hostage situation as an interjection from the Earth First! Journal collective to the CNC vs. Watson debate. We felt our position as a recognized voice of radical ecology situated in the borderlands could be of value. Today, September 2, 2010, we feel that value has an even broader relevance.
This much we can agree on: there is a war against the Earth and we cannot stay neutral and observe passively. Where our common ground with people such as Paul Watson and Dave Foreman exists from there, it is unclear.
We view industrial civilization as the primary aggressor of this war. The same system that dominates the planet has succeeded in dominating most people on the planet as well. Despite this general agreement among current active participants in the Earth First! movement, many among us still experience the feeling of misanthropy (and some still embrace it wholly). But even for those who view attacks on the planet stemming from the human species (rather than the systems that dominate it), we on the EF! Journal collective fail to see how that equates aligning yourself with white nationalists, right-wing nativists and border militarization rather than immigrant campesinos, refugees and the youth of undocumented families fghting to stop their parents and siblings from deportation? How does keeping people behind walls address global population?
From Paul Watson’s letter it is diffcult to tell if he even read the report or watched the video sent to him about Apply The Brakes (ATB) by Center for New Community (CNC). Does he disagree with the documentation presented about ATB affiliations with known racists and xenophobes who are classifed as hate groups by multiple sources? Does he have some information to counter this? Or is he indifferent to it because he agrees so strongly with their strategy for urgent action—which, according to their website, entails writing generic form letters to elected offcials about population increase and immigration in the United States? Since when did Paul Watson think writing form letters to congress was the best way to get results anyway?
And to what end? What we have seen from the loudest anti-immigrant groups have been expanded border walls through sensitive desert bioregions and indigenous land; “national security” measures which override federal environmental protection, such as REAL ID Act and Secure Borders Initiative; and legislative efforts like HR4437 in 2006 and SB 1070 in Arizona this year aimed at increasing the police state power to criminalize people for crossing arbitrary borders established through wars of colonial conquest and empire building.
Watson’s letter states: “By the way I'm all for unrestricted immigration by wolves, bears, fsh, birds and any other non-exotic formally native species wishing to return home.”
When’s the last time Paul was in the borderlands? Does he know that they’ve been building and expanding massive walls across the desert for almost twenty years; that Audubon and Sierra Club lawsuits against construction of the wall in sensitive areas of Texas and Arizona were thrown out of federal court for the same “national security” reasons hailed by ATB?
The last known jaguar in the southwestern U.S. was killed last year. State biologists and other liberals say it doesn’t matter because they’ll never live here again anyway. They’re right—militarization and border wall expansion will likely ensure that a Mexican jaguar never makes it to this half of their range again.
If you’re nor worried about jaguars, how about endangered pygmy owls and Sonoran Pronghorn antelope in Arizona; fat-tailed horned lizard and peninsular bighorn sheep in California; the grey wolf in New Mexico; Big Bend National Park, Cabeza Prieta National Refuge, Organ Pipe National Monument, the San Pedro and Rio Grande Rivers, all bisected by the borders ATB praises.
Stephen Mumme, an expert on borderland ecology at Colorado State University says that current border policy presents an extremely high threat to biodiversity, “right up there with the most serious and long-term adverse consequences for the environment created by humankind—right up there with the worst instances of urbanization, the worst instances of damming up our rivers.”
Desert ecologist, Daniel Patterson, with the Center for Biological Diversity, said “the only living things the walls won’t stop are people” (millions of them, who continue coming in direct relation to global economic pressures.)
So, has anything good come of anti-immigrant bigotry masquerading as ecology or xenophobes using ecologists to their own ends? We would venture to say yes: one thing. Judging from the short CNC video of young people in New York confronting the Weeden Foundation for financing the Tanton Network (specifically the slick new image of ATB) it has mobilized a whole new generation of activists, many of whom seem to realize they are facing the latest face of Manifest Destiny. The same Manifest Destiny that cleared the vast majority of ancient forests, wiped out the buffalo and drove millions into the agricultural and industrial slavery that continues today.
For our part, we have made a conscious decision to side with immigrant activists, many of whom come from land-based communities and know more closely the practical reality of living with the earth instead of against it.
While we are not necessarily interested in the “economic renewal” proposed by Center for New Communities, we don’t see ATB calling for the end of industrial civilization either. In fact, the contrary—where former Earth First!ers like Dave Foreman and George Wuerthner once spoke of the need to deindustrialize the entire society, they now speak as defenders of status quo as self-described leaders of ATB. Their decision is a turncoat alliance with the system that is killing the planet.
In years 20 past, we have increasingly parted ways with some of the prominent old guard deep ecologists over the subject of population and immigration. Today, we find much of that debate is over. There is no way to be a committed biocentrist in support of a regime of colonial borders, devastating walls through bioregions and the fortification of the police state intended to keep the current system intact.
“One of the key concepts of bioregionalism is that modern political boundaries have no relationship to natural ecological provinces. Bioregionalists argue that human society—and therefore, politics and economics—should be based on natural ecosystems. They fnd affnity with Indian tribes and with Basque, Welsh, and Kurdish separatists, and have no sympathy with the modern nation-state, empire, or mutinational corporation.” Sound familiar? Who could have written those words but Dave Foreman himself in his 1991 hardback, Confessions of an Eco-Warrior. (Harmony Books. NYC, 1991. pp. 43)
For those who do not have the wax too far in their ears, we ask you to refect your position on biocentrism and deep ecology in relation to your alignment with ATB.
In our effort to form an appropriate response to end the war against the Earth, where will we search for allies—among right-wing elitist think tanks or among ground level movements of people facing off with power?

5) What is the Anti-civilization movement?
Broadly speaking we can say that as long as civilization has existed there have been those that have opposed it. So-called “primitive” societies have always resisted falling under the yoke of civilization from the forgotten tribes of Mesopotamia, to the native peoples of North America and Africa, to the least remaining primitive societies in deepest Amazonia and Papua New Guinea. civilization has destroyed the ancient, earth-based traditions of countless societies and replaced them with a monotonous, unsustainable and oppressive system. civilization has denuded the Earth of vast forests in its ever-increasing desire for
more agricultural land and has enslaved humans, animals and plants in the process.
Slaves and primitives are not the only ones to have rebelled against civilization. The privileged classes of civilized societies have also had their rebels, including: Henry David Thoreau, Edward Carpenter, Ralph Borsodi and Sigmund Freud. Among Europeans of the era of colonization the trope of the “noble savage” became popular, due mostly to reports of the uncivilized ways of life of native Americans. The first hand accounts of the colonization of the United States are full of mentions of whites and blacks that willingly left civilized life to go live with the indians. Even today anthropologists and others feel the urge to “go native.”
As the anti-civilization tendency has built momentum in recent decades three distinct threads of anti-civilization thought have emerged. The first is that of Daniel Quinn, whose philosophy James Lee embraced. The second is the wilderness protection theory and practice of Earth First!, Earth Liberation Front and other similar groups and individuals. The third is that of the Green Anarchists. Each of these approach the problem of civilization in different ways.
Daniel Quinn
Quinn is the least radical of the three tendencies. His proposals for overcoming civilization are vague and piecemeal. His non-fiction book Beyond Civilization outlines in the most detail his concept of the New Tribal Revolution. This Revolution would be brought about by “occupational tribalism,” something like a hybrid of small business and circus troupe. These tribes would be semi-self-sufficient, exchanging goods and services with one another. An original concept, but it seems unlikely to truly challenge capitalism, let alone civilization. Quinn can be described as a reformist. The violent actions that took place at the Discovery Channel are surely not ones he would endorse. Curiously, Lee referred only specifically to a passage from Quinn's novel My Ishmael:
One: The revolution won't take place all at once. It's not going to be any sort of coup d'etat like the French or Russian revolutions.
Two: It will be achieved incrementally, by people working off each other's ideas. This is the great driving innovation of the Industrial Revolution.
Three: It will be led by no one. Like the Industrial Revolution, it will need no shepherd, no organizer, no spearhead, no pacesetter, no mastermind at the top; it will be too much for anyone to lead.
Four: It will not be the initiative of any political, governmental, or religious body — again, like the Industrial Revolution. Some will doubtless want to claim to be its supporters and protectors; there are always leaders ready to step forward once others have shown the way.
Five: It has no targeted end point. Why should it have an end point?
Six: It will proceed according to no plan. How on earth could there be a plan?
Seven: It will reward those who further the revolution with the coin of the revolution. In the Industrial Revolution, those who contributed much in the way of product wealth received much in the way of product wealth; in the New Tribal Revolution, those who contribute much in the way of support will receive much in the way of support.
The idea of building a resistance to civilization informed by the Industrial Revolution is paradoxical, but Quinn's ideas may possibly have some merit. Lee's desperate attempt to have these ideas disseminated failed utterly. He did not even include this quote in the text of his manifesto.
Population
Besides the brief reference to Daniel Quinn's work, the rest of the manifesto draws mostly from the familiar theoretical ground of human overpopulation. Lee makes several explicit references to the work of Thomas Malthus. Malthus, an 18th Century English clergyman is best remembered for his theory of human population growth. According to Malthus human population increases exponentially, while human food supply only grows incrementally. Thus, Malthus believed that inevitably humanity would be pressed into devastating wars over scarce food. Though such a catastrophe has not yet occurred, Malthusian population theory has not died out in popularity. It has had a consistent presence among ecological movements since at least the first Earth Day.
Anarchists have criticized the Malthusian population theory from its inception. It has frequently served those in power as a justification for authoritarian measures. Paul Ehrlich and John Holdren (the latter now an adviser in the Obama administration) both wrote on the subject beginning in the late seventies. Among other draconian measures they have recommended at various times are:forced sterilization and releasing birth control chemicals into drinking water. Forced sterilization is a practice familiar to native American women in the United States and women and men of various ethnicities in European dictatorships, including Nazi Germany. It is an authoritarian, sexist and racist practice that denies women their physical autonomy and family planning initiative. Garrett Hardin applied the Malthusian theory to economics and came up with the concept of the “tragedy of the commons,” a not-so-subtle defence of capitalism and privatization with an ecological veneer.
Overpopulation has become an issue of choice for many elite. Several “think tanks” have been formed in recent decades, including the Optimum Population Trust
in the United Kingdom, which offer top-down “solutions” to overpopulation. Recently Bill Gates convened a small group of the ultra-wealthy to discuss their ideas for “solutions.” Though Green Anarchists do not usually deny that human overpopulation is a concern, we are explicit in our rejection of the authoritarian measures decided upon by the global ruling classes, usually most affecting the poorest and most exploited in Third World nations. Real, sustainable tactics to addressing this problem must come from educating women in their family planning options. In those instances where women are aware of the birth control options available to them, birth rate decreases dramatically. Other tactics, currently less thought out, would involve delegitimizing ideologies that promote unsustainable human population growth such as religions (especially Catholicism, Mormonism and Islam), nationalism and racism. Further, entrenched interests in many overdeveloped nations often use the spectre of rising population as justification for authoritarian anti-immigration efforts. Attempting to limit immigration to various nation-states neither addresses the problem, nor treats already living humans with dignity. Further, as anarchists we explicitly reject the State's interfering in free human movement.
Unfortunately the first generation of Earth First!ers, most notably co-founder Dave Foreman, accepted many of these authoritarian “solutions” to the population issue. As the wilderness defence movement has developed, however, the influence of Green Anarchism has mitigated these xenophobic and misanthropic tendencies. James Lee has exhibited much in his manifesto in the way of misanthropy, referring frequently to babies as “filth,” and blaming immigrants for rising population in the United States. Needless to say the criticism applied to other eco-radicals by Green Anarchists applies also to Lee.
Green Anarchist Trajectories
James Lee's actions were those of a deluded and hopeless soul. His plan was ill-conceived, though his target was deserving of the scorn he placed upon it. The capitalist media is a propaganda behemoth. The vast majority of television programming is decaying human minds throughout the world, and should be stopped by any means necessary. It would be wonderful if it could be replaced by edifying, intellectually stimulating programming, but this is a very unlikely occurrence in the near term.
Anarchism emphatically rejects reformism. Classical anarchism rejects the common notions that capitalism and the State can be reformed to be more humane and less oppressive. All efforts at reform have only made the oppression more subtle and sneaky, such as the illusion of choice offered by capitalism, whether in the form of competing products or hundreds of television channels. Green anarchism rejects the notion that civilization in its entirety can be gainfully reformed. Given civilization's 6000+ year track record it is clear that it functions through intimidation, murder (whether mass wars or state murder, AKA “execution,” “capital punishment'), oppression of women and ethnic minorities, destruction of nature, homogenization of culture, psychological manipulation, and finally the industrial regimentation of all life.
The discussion of tactics in Green Anarchism has barely begun. Many favour tactics borrowed from Earth First!/ELF. Others have begun trying to mentally, spiritually and technically “rewild.” As the movement grows we will come up with a diversity of tactics for addressing the problem of civilization.
These tactics must, and will, be guided by the ever-evolving theoretical structure of Green Anarchism. A wealth of theoretical works are already present on the Internet and in local radical bookstores/infoshops. Two specific trajectories are already being explored and will doubtless be elaborated in the years to come. First, the Malthusian theory of population, already disreputable and highly theoretically suspect, appears ready to be replaced by better ideas about human population growth. Biological science has long accepted food supply as a major factor in the levels of animal populations, yet has almost never considered food supply in relation to human population. It appears as though the anthropocentric bias leading to such a blatant oversight is gradually being addressed. In other words, if current biology is correct, Malthusian population theory is exactly the reverse of how population really works. Thus the belief that increasing food supply will stave off starvation (as was done in the “Green Revolution” of the seventies) may actually compound future catastrophe.
The second trajectory, which will likely eclipse the first, is only beginning to take shape. Many anti-civilization thinkers, most famously Derrick Jensen, are beginning to question science itself. Heretofore most of those that oppose science have done so from a religious, and therefore uncritical, stance. As the unofficial ideology of the current globalizing civilization, science is often claimed to be the only legitimate method of knowledge. Yet, so much of the human experience does not fall under the objective, standardizable, repeatable conditions necessary for scientific enquiry. It is unclear at this early stage what critiques of science in the anti-civilization movement will look like, but they will certainly cause a bit of conceptual reorientation. Much of the ecological aspects of anti-civilization thought, concepts derived from ecological science, will need to be re-examined as these critiques develop.
Whatever the future holds, it is for us to decide. The 6000+ year crisis of civilization will ultimately be a blip in human and world history. What the Earth will be like for millions of years to come will depend, at least in part, on what we do now. Whether the future of life on this planet will be of regeneration or further decimation depends on whether we have a courage to end civilization once and for all.

The Russian Embassy in Minsk attacked anarchists
Responsibility for the recent attack on the Russian embassy, caused a stir in the press, claimed a group of Belarusian anarchists. Quote the statement posted on the website of Indymedia: In the evening on August 30 a group of anarchists was conducted attack with Molotov cocktails at Russian embassy in Minsk. Was damaged one of the official cars. By this action, we express our anger and protest against the arrests and repression against social activists, who defended forests Khimki Moscow. Our friends are beaten by mercenaries from among the fascists, riot police chases and screws all in a row, threats, detentions and arrests have become the norm.Our friends are forced to endure the hardships in the dungeons and live in fear of being planted, because it stood for truth, for the people, for the right to a normal environment. But bureaucrats and capitalists concerned only kickbacks and profits, they do not care what will happen tomorrow and they are ready to virulent measures to suppress any protest, any dissatisfaction. What's next, death squads? We stand in solidarity with our comrades, and support only direct methods of struggle, because they are afraid only of force on the rest of them do not care. Familia Guzmán pide reabrir el caso tras dichos de "Ramiro" sobre otros implicados

Una reapertura "inmediata" del caso por el asesinato del senador UDI Jaime Guzmán pidió ayer la familia del parlamentario, tras las declaraciones de Mauricio Hernández Norambuena, el "Comandante Ramiro", sobre la planificación del crimen. El ex frentista aseguró que la decisión de atentar contra Guzmán fue tomada por varios integrantes de la Dirección Nacional del Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez (FPMR).
"Ramiro" está condenado a dos cadenas perpetuas en Chile, por el asesinato ocurrido el 1 de abril a la salida del Campus Oriente de la U. Católica y por el secuestro de Cristián Edwards.
En una entrevista dada a Chilevisión en el penal de Catanduvas, en Brasil, Hernández Norambuena dijo que la decisión fue acordada por la directiva rodriguista y que se planeaba asesinar a otros civiles. Mencionó al ex ministro del Interior Sergio Fernández y al abogado Ambrosio Rodríguez.
El abogado de la familia Guzmán, Luis Hermosilla, llegó ayer a tribunales para entrevistarse con el juez del caso, Mario Carroza. Dijo que solicitará diligencias relacionadas con las personas nombradas por "Ramiro".
Entre ellas figura Enrique Villanueva, el "Comandante Eduardo". El ex rodriguista perteneció a la dirección del Frente y fue sindicado por Hernández Norambuena como informante del Consejo de Seguridad Pública, conocido como "La Oficina". Al respecto, el abogado Hermosilla dijo que "Hernández Norambuena da antecedentes importantísimos que lo ubican como una persona con una doble condición. Por un lado, uno de los comandantes del Frente y, por otro, un importante informante de la oficina de seguridad del gobierno".
Hermosilla agregó que quienes fomaban parte de la dirección del grupo armado eran Galvarino Apablaza, Juan Gutiérrez Fischmann, "El Chele", y Villanueva.
El abogado de "Ramiro", Alberto Espinoza, indicó que lo tiene "sin cuidado" una posible reapertura del caso, pues el ex frentista ya está condenado.
Ayer, el director ejecutivo de la Fundación Jaime Guzmán, Jorge Jaraquemada, dijo a La Tercera que los dichos de Hernández Norambuena son "gravísimos". "El insinúa que antes del atentado a Jaime Guzmán, el gobierno habría tenido información que lo alertaba sobre esa posibilidad (...) Es impensable que una autoridad haya tenido una actitud de ese tipo", manifestó.
Varios personeros de la UDI aseguraron ayer que no hubo voluntad política para aclarar el caso. El presidente de esa colectividad, Juan Antonio Coloma, dijo que "es fundamental que quienes ejercían el poder en la década del 90 expliquen a la ciudadanía qué es lo que realmente hicieron para esclarecer el caso".
El diputado DC Jorge Burgos, quien integró "La Oficina", descartó que el gobierno de la época supiera del plan o se haya encubierto a los asesinos. "Es absolutamente falso, sería ponernos en una situación de encubridores de un crimen y eso sería investigado. Las declaraciones de un homicida y un secuestrador nacional e internacional tienen el valor de quién vienen", dijo Burgos a Cooperativa.
"Ramiro" está recluido en Brasil desde 2002 por el secuestro del empresario Washington Olivetto. Para intentar acelerar su extradición, hoy se reunirá el senador UDI Andrés Chadwick con el ministro del Interior, Rodrigo Hinzpeter.

"Ramiro" sindicó a Enrique Villanueva Molina como la persona que informaba al gobierno de los movimientos del FPMR. Según dijo, todo era para desarticular el grupo.
El "Comandante Eduardo", como era conocido, ejerció la vocería del FPMR y ocupaba la cuarta jerarquía en la línea de mando. Según Hernández, Villanueva era informante de La Oficina desde 1990, es decir, un año antes del crimen de Guzmán.
En 1997, el "Comandante Eduardo" se fue con destino a Cuba. Sin embargo, tuvo que salir rumbo a Venezuela. El juez que investigaba el caso en ese entonces, Hugo Dolmestch, ordenó su detención y en 2001 declaró por exhorto. Aseguró no haber tenido información sobre los planes para asesinar a Guzmán. Además, negó haber sido informante de la "La Oficina".
Actualmente, Enrique Villanueva reside en Concón, V Región. En su casa, uno de sus familiares explicó que en los próximos días presentarán una querella por injurias, calumnias, daños y perjuicios contra Hernández Norambuena, a raíz de las acusaciones del ex frentista.

Hernández hace revelaciones sobre el Frente desde la prisión
Ex líder de la organización terrorista analizó las crisis sufridas por el grupo.
Mauricio Hernández Norambuena, ex líder del FPMR, autor intelectual del asesinato de Jaime Guzmán y del secuestro de Cristián Edwards, hizo revelaciones sobre dicha organización terrorista en una entrevista emitida anoche por Chilevisión.
El condenado fue entrevistado en el penal de Brasil donde cumplía condena por el secuestro del empresario de ese país Washington Olivetto. Dos días después fue trasladado.
Hernández pasó revista a las actuaciones del FPMR desde el atentado a Augusto Pinochet, en 1986, donde, según dijo, el objetivo era crear una sublevación popular.
Respecto del secuestro del coronel Carlos Carreño, al año siguiente, afirmó que se trató de una acción de propaganda en la que el uniformado no fue elegido en forma especial y que si hubieran conocido su vinculación con casos de armas habrían sentido que se habían "sacado la lotería".
El ex frentista describió luego una serie de hechos que fueron debilitando a la organización, según reconoció, partiendo por su creencia de que habría fraude en el plebiscito de 1988 y que la opción "No" sería derrotada. A ello agregó la muerte de su líder Raúl Pellegrín, cuyo estilo no fueron capaces de mantener, afirmó.
A partir de ahí, relató que bajo la conducción de Galvarino Apablaza el FPMR se convirtió casi exclusivamente en una organización militar.
Reconociendo que se actuó con "voluntarismo" tras el regreso de la democracia, describió la política de "ajusticiamientos" que se siguió.
El denominado "Comandante Ramiro" se preocupó de recalcar que dichas decisiones, en particular el asesinato del senador Guzmán, fueron tomadas colectivamente. Tras este crimen, reconoció que las ayudas económicas que recibía el FPMR prácticamente se interrumpieron, y que habría sido precisamente la necesidad de obtener dinero lo que los llevó a secuestrar a Edwards.
Incluso Hernández reveló que el FPMR perdió medio millón de dólares a raíz de manejos que no supo atribuir a corrupción o negligencia.
También colaboró al debilitamiento del grupo el hecho de que algunos de sus miembros pasaron a colaborar en funciones de inteligencia del Gobierno, como Enrique Villanueva y Agdalín Valenzuela. Este último fue detenido con él y recibió "tratamiento VIP", dijo.
